Zihuatanejo, Ixtapa
and Troncones have great surf spots to recommend
them to wave lovers;
both beach breaks and point breaks abound along this area of
the Pacific coast. Playa Las Gatas - when the swell is just
right, the waves off the Las Gatas rocky point can be perfect
for a good ride - though being so close to town, it can get
crowded. Playa
Madera can put up some surf during the summer season - another
convenient spot. Playa Escolleras, Ixtapa - right on Ixtapa's
main beach, Playa el Palmar, next to the rock jetty.
The point and beach breaks at Troncones can be very powerful,
causing undertows and rip tides that can catch swimmers and
surfers unaware and carry them out to sea.
